WEB
SITES.
Fast static websites, interactive experiences and bespoke interfaces without unnecessary platform overhead.
A demonstration with fictional sample sites. The brands, products and prices inside the browser are invented.
PRINCIPLE
WEBSITES SHOULDN'T FEEL LIKE TEMPLATES.
A website is often the first thing people see. It should load quickly, read clearly and feel like it was made for the business behind it — because it was.
WHAT IT COVERS
06 AREAS
- 01
FAST STATIC SITES
Hand-built HTML, CSS and JavaScript. No page builder, no stack of plugins to keep patched, and pages that load quickly on a weak phone signal.
- 02
INTERACTIVE EXPERIENCES
Configurators, quote calculators, product selectors and guided flows that answer a visitor's question on the page instead of in an email.
- 03
BESPOKE INTERFACES
Customer portals, dashboards and internal tools, built with the same care as the public site and connected to your data.
- 04
SEO FOUNDATIONS
Semantic markup, a sensible page structure, proper metadata, sitemaps and performance. The basics, done properly, on every page.
- 05
ACCESSIBILITY
Keyboard support, readable type, sufficient contrast and respect for reduced-motion settings, built in rather than bolted on at the end.
- 06
HOSTING & HANDOVER
Simple, inexpensive static hosting, clear documentation, and a way to update the content that doesn't depend on me.
WHY STATIC
LESS PLATFORM. MORE WEBSITE.
Most small business websites don't need a content platform, a theme marketplace and twenty plugins. They need a handful of well-made pages, a form that reaches the right inbox, and the confidence that nothing will break when an update lands overnight.
Where a site does need to do more, such as pricing a job, recommending a product or showing live stock, I build exactly that piece, and keep everything around it simple.
- A theme everyone else is using
- A design made for your business
- Plugins to update every month
- Plain files with nothing to patch
- Pages that wait on a database
- Pages served straight from the edge
- "Contact us for a price"
- Tools that answer the question on the page
APPROACH
HOW I'D APPROACH IT.
- 01
Content first
What do visitors need to find, understand and do? The words and the structure come before any visual decisions.
- 02
Wireframe the structure
Plain grey layouts to agree what goes where, on a phone as well as a desktop, while changes are still cheap.
- 03
Design in the browser
Styling and interaction built directly in code, so what you review is what visitors will actually get.
- 04
Launch and measure
Performance, accessibility and search checks before launch, then small improvements based on how people really use it.
PLAIN ANSWERS.
Is the website really bespoke?
Yes. Every site is designed and built from scratch around your business, whatever its size or sector. I do not start from a template or a theme.
Do I need a content management system?
Often not. Most small business sites need a handful of well-made pages. Where you need to update content regularly, a simple way to do it is set up that does not depend on me.
Will the site be accessible?
Yes. Keyboard support, readable type, sufficient contrast and respect for reduced-motion settings are built in from the start.
Will people find it on search engines?
Every page gets semantic markup, a sensible structure, proper metadata, a sitemap and good performance: the basics, done properly.
Can a website do more than show pages?
Yes. Configurators, quote calculators, product selectors and guided flows can answer a visitor’s question on the page instead of in an email.
